Wharenui

We have been learning about a Wharenui because we will be going to one.

WHARENUI

A wharenui is like a book because all wharenui tell a different story
about their tribe in the past. The wharenui represents a ancestor that has
passed away that the people that own the marae want to remember. The head is
called a koruru, the arms are called maihi, the hands are called raparapa, the
spine is called tahuhu, the heart is called the Poutokomanawa and the ribs are
called heke.

A Marae can be used for many different things. When a natural disaster
happens if you are not safe at your house you could always stay at the Marae
for free. They could give you food, water and somewhere to sleep. You could
have celebrations, Wedding,Birthdays and funerals at the Marae.
Sometimes they have special important meetings at the Marae.

  1. Hey Mylah, It's me Billie.Nice writing about the Marae. I liked how you told us the names and the Maroi name for the objects. Over all out of 10 I would give you a 10 because it looked like you tried really hard. From Billie.

  2. Tēnā koe Mylah. Well done for using your writing skills and drawing skills to share your learning about marae and wharenui. The diagram you girls did was amazing and detailed. I like that your writing is broken into two clear paragraphs about the structure of the wharenui and then what you can do there.

Your next step is to check your punctuation carefully before you come and edit and proof read with me.

I liked how you explained that a wharenui is like a book that tells the story of that tribe. Ka pai tō tuhituhi.
