My Marae Recount

Room7 Noho Marae
Trip
On the 1-2 of May term 1 2019 room seven and room five, the teachers and
parents, Miriama, Terry and Terry's cousin went on a Noho Marae to stay
the night because we were learning about our local Arahura Marae.

Evening rotations

One of my favourite things was the evening rotations.
At 7.00 o’clock we went into our evening rotations. I was inside doing games
with Phaedra and Adrian. The first game we played was rats and rabbits.
How you play is there is a skipping rope in the middle and if you call rats
then the rats have to run and the rabbits have to try to tag the rats and if the
rats get to the wall first, the rats get a point but if the rabbits tag the rats then
the rabbits get a point. The next game we played was a game that you have a
fan and you have to fan the ball to your end. The next evening rotation I did
was the technology challenge with Miss Ireland. My group was Indi, Billie and
Alaska. What we had to do was we got some paper, tape and scissors and that
is the only things we could use and then we made me into Waitaiki who is a
character for the maori legend.

Roasting Smores

After the evening rotations we gathered round the fire and Donna and
Miss Kemp made lots of smores. Then we sang a waiata all together and
Donna was dancing and we all started laughing so hard! The smores were
delicious and they smelt so good! I wanted one more smore. Then Miss
Kemp got up and told us a story, then Miss Barrow got up and told us a story.
Then we went inside the marae and got ready to go to bed.

The Bush Walk

The next day we went on a bush walk. Billie and I had to find 6 plants,
but we found them in like five minutes (it was easy). The walk  took 20 to 30
minutes but I was getting sore legs but we made it to the beautiful lake.
I loved the pretty view. When we got to the lake/ picnic point, first Miss Ireland
told us a story about the war that happened at that lake. Then we got out our kai
and started eating but we only got 10 minutes. Then Donna and Phaedra started
handing out marshmallows, we all got two each. After our  kai we started walking
back to the cars. On the way it was very funny because I was walking fast and
Billie couldn't catch up to me so she was so far behind me. When we got back from
the walk, we sat down and marked our plant sheet, then we headed back to school.

I was very nervous about the Noho Marae stay but overall it was very fun.

Thank you for taking us. It was amazing. I loved walking into the marae for
the first time.
