Perimeter, volume and area DLO work

 We are learning to calculate the perimeter, area and volume of shapes:

  1.  36 cm cubed

(Insert photos of your two different shapes)

  1.  What is the perimeter of each shape?

         No.1= 14cm        No.2= 18cm.

  1.  What is the area of the bottom level of each shape?

          No.1= 12cm squared      No.2= 18cm squared.

What formula can we use to work out:

Perimeter:( L + W) x2

Area: L x W

Volume: L x W x H

Kensuke's Kingdom, By Michael Morpurgo

In my class, we have been reading a book called Kensuke's Kingdom. This book is written by Michael Morpurgo and illustrated by Michael Foreman. When we finished the book we had to do a book review and video ourselves telling you a bit about the book, its strengths and weaknesses and who would enjoy this book. Thank you for watching this 😄🤍

Forces And Motion - A Day Of Learning

 Last week, on Wednesday, we had a force and motion day - Topana and neke. On this day we learnt new things about force and motion. The day involved the whole school rotating around different classrooms and doing different learning activities. Each group got to complete three out of eight activities.

After that we created DLOs about the three actives that we completed and what we learnt from them. My DLO is embedded down below.

I tried hard on force and motion day to complete all of the activities. I found the Lego activities challenging because it was my first time using the Lego and we had to make a Ferris wheel. If I was to do this again I would make sure I took a photos of the  activities to use in my slide show Thanks for reading my blog post, I would really like if you left me a positive, thoughtful, and helpful comment.

Digital Technology Matariki project_blue bots and QR codes

For matariki we learnt about the stars. We made a special bluebot mat. On the mat we has QR codes and when you scanned them you learnt about the stars. The kids had to code the bluebots to get to the QR codes. We learnt that there are nines stars in the cluster and that each star has its own name and something that is connected to like the sea or weather.

Learning outcome: To record the experiences of West Coast children from the past 100 years in order to create a History of West Coast people during times of difficulty and challenge - this will be turned into a book to be kept in local museums and at Shantytown.

My great nana Brown (nee Pauline Cairney) was born in Greymouth in 1941. At the age of 10 months old she contracted polio during the poliomyelitis epidemic that swept throughout the world. The virus affected her muscles on her left side of her face causing her mouth to move halfway up the side of her face. Her mother (Emma Cairney) sat with her day and night feeding her condensed milk, and massaging her little face. By doing this she survived and eventually her mouth moved back into place leaving just a slight slant. She was one of the luckier ones as many other children either died or were left paralyzed. I am thankful that nowadays there are vaccines that can stop you from getting polio.

Letter About Lockdown

Dear Mrs Robbins,

I have not been in a car for three weeks,
Normally I would be going to school most days.
I am used to getting up at 7:30 and now I can sleep till whatever time I want and not have to get up so early for school nearly each morning. The hardest thing for me is not being able to see all my friends and family and going out anywhere.The things I enjoy about having to stay home is that you get more family time with my parents and playing games with them, I also like to practise my tricks on the tramp, the trick i am learning is a front handspring and a aerial.

Technology has helped me connect with friends and family members, I have been face timing them everyday.My Aunty Katie from Christchurch had her baby the other week so it was good that I could still see them through facetime, because we can’t go visit them yet. Her name is Adalyn and she was born on her mums birthday, she is very cute.

A movie that I really enjoyed was the smurfs and the lost village and hop on Easter Sunday. On Easter I had an easter egg hunt around my house with clues to solve. A book that I have been reading over the past three weeks is the 104 story treehouse. My favourite youtube channel is Rebecca Zamolo, because I love the mysteries and the clues that she has to solve and she also does fun challenges like last to leave challenges.

Me and my mum were bored so we decided to make a house and a pool made out of cardboard. The first week of isolation, me, my dad and my mum went camping in our own backyard, we made a fire and cooked dinner on it. We had sizzlers and hot chips with tomato sauce. Then when mum and dad were asleep the cat climbed up the tent and woke us up. Then she left and came back for cuddles and went to sleep on me.
